Designing on your smartphone or tablet shouldn’t stop you from using the right font. Like computers, they come with a variety of fonts. But what if you want to install a custom font on your Android device? Installing an OTF or TTF file on your phone or tablet is easier than you think.

In this easy guide, we will walk you through the steps of installing a custom font on your Android phone or tablet!

Download additional application

In order to do so, you need to download an additional app. In this guide, we will use a free Google Play application called iFont.

Please note,  iFont does not support installation on all Android devices. Please check that your Android device supports this method of installation on the iFont page in the Google Play Store

Downloading, extracting and installing a custom font on your Android Device

Before you can get started, you need to download the font that you’d like to install on your android device. In this example, we will be using the font Setting Fires.

Go to your ‘Downloads’ app on your device. This application can look different depending on which device you are using. If you cannot find the ‘Downloads’ app on your device, you can search for it among your applications.

In ‘Downloads’ you can now view the font you just downloaded. The font is compressed into a ZIP file, and you’ll need to extract the font in order to start the installation.
To do this you need to mark either the OTF or the TTF file in the ZIP file, and click Settings> Extract to….

Extract the font to Android SDcard> iFont> Custom. Click ‘Extract’ to complete the extraction.

Open iFont and go to My> My Font.

The font will now be located in My Fonts as a custom font.

Open it to preview the font and to install it on your device. Click Set to complete the installation.

You can now enjoy your new font on your Android device!
